Students at Euchee Creek Elementary School are giving hands-on learning a whole new meaning. They are set to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new discovery trail. The trail is just under one mile and includes two outdoor classrooms.
The project started about a year-and-a-half ago with the help of student interns from the University of Georgia’s School of Forestry. Horizons teacher Dawn Jeffers says the trail has created new and exciting ways for students to learn.
“It’s a way for students to use the outdoors as a classroom and do STEM activities and get to know nature and the things that are right near them as well as understanding the ecosystem and tying in our Georgia standards,” said Jeffers.
Her students also played a part in seeing it come together and said they learned valuable lessons along the way.
